The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has apprehended two individuals for illegal possession of 2,600 AK-47 ammunition and related items at the Kantanso–Asankare Police Barrier in the Ashanti Region.
The suspects, identified as Kwame Afram, a bus driver, and Godfred Essel, his assistant, were intercepted on 26th December 2025 while traveling from Accra to Walewale via Paga in a Kia Granbird bus (registration GT 5771-18).
During a thorough inspection of the vehicle, police discovered two containers hidden inside the bus, holding a total of 2,600 AK-47 rounds.
Further searches uncovered a bag concealed under the driver’s seat containing two bulletproof plates, a black helmet, and a pair of long boots.
The suspects remain in police custody to assist with ongoing investigations. The bus and all recovered items have been impounded as authorities continue their probe into the incident.
