TVET Service condemns KNUST SHS Assistant Headmaster’s misconduct

The Ghana TVET Service has strongly denounced the conduct of Charles Akwasi Aidoo, Assistant Headmaster (Academic) of KNUST Senior High School(SHS), after a viral video surfaced showing him allegedly fondling the breasts of a female student.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the Service described the act as “a gross violation of trust, an abuse of authority, and a direct attack on the values of dignity and safety that every school must uphold.”

It noted that school authorities and educators are entrusted with the responsibility of safeguarding learners, serving as role models, and creating safe environments that foster academic and personal growth.

“Any breach of this duty erodes public trust and undermines the values on which Ghana’s education system stands. The Service will not condone conduct that places learners at risk or tarnishes the noble teaching profession,” the statement emphasised.

Although KNUST SHS does not fall directly under its mandate, the TVET Service said it stands in solidarity with all institutions committed to the protection of learners. It also urged the relevant education authorities, law enforcement agencies, and the judiciary to thoroughly investigate the incident and take firm action.

The Service further highlighted its Safe School Initiative — a national programme designed to shield students from harassment, abuse, and other forms of maltreatment. Through this initiative, schools receive guidance and oversight to ensure classrooms remain spaces of safety and opportunity rather than fear or intimidation.

Reaffirming its zero-tolerance stance on abuse, the Service encouraged students, parents, and facilitators to report any misconduct. It also warned that institutional heads who fail to uphold standards of accountability and professionalism will face strict sanctions, including dismissal.

“As champions of the Safe School Initiative, leaders are expected to protect students’ dignity, security, and well-being while maintaining the highest standards of conduct,” the statement added.
