Founding member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, has challenged the party leadership to dismiss him and other senior pioneers if it goes ahead with plans to expel former Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Prof. Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng.
His remarks follow confirmation by NPP General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua, that internal processes have been initiated to remove Prof. Frimpong-Boateng from the party over comments the leadership claims are damaging to its image and unity.
Speaking in an interview on Accra-based TV3, Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe said he fully supports Prof. Frimpong-Boateng and rejected claims that his comments were disrespectful.
“I listened to Prof. Frimpong-Boateng’s interview and I must say, without fear, that I agree with him entirely. All the points he raised are issues that are genuinely worrying the party,” he said.
He warned that any attempt to expel the former minister would have serious consequences.
“What I will say at this stage is that if they sack Frimpong-Boateng, then they should sack me, they should sack Kwame Pianim, they should sack Dr. Arthur Kennedy and quite a number of us. Whoever in the NPP now thinks he can sack Frimpong-Boateng should try it. They should try it,” he dared.
Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe argued that rather than punishing Prof. Frimpong-Boateng, the party leadership should reflect on the substance of his concerns.
“Frimpong-Boateng is not a kid. He is academically solid. He is a man of integrity and a hard-working person. He knows how to choose his words, and if he says the party is fake, he knows why he says so,” he stated.
“And if I were them, they would have had a quiet discussion with him before coming out the way they did,” he added.
He further issued a strong warning about the party’s future direction.
“The manner in which the leadership has handled this matter shows the party is on its way to destruction, and some of us, including myself, will ensure that these destroyers are rather removed so that the party formed by men of integrity will survive,” he warned.
