The Ministry of Roads and Highways has confirmed that the trailer driver who crashed into the North Dzorwulu Pedestrian Footbridge will cover the full cost of the estimated GH¢2.5 million required to repair the damaged structure.

Speaking on Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily, the Head of the Public Relations Unit at the Ministry, Nasir Ahmed Yartey, said the suspect has been arrested and is in police custody.

“The issue has come to our attention, and the culprit has been apprehended. The police are in full control, and we are dealing with it,” he stated.

Mr. Yartey added that the Bridge Maintenance Unit of the Ghana Highway Authority conducted an emergency technical inspection, which revealed significant localized structural damage caused by the impact of the trailer.

“The estimate for the repair of the bridge has been put at around GH¢2.5 million, and the culprit is going to fully fund the repair works. We are going to ensure that this is done,” he said.

He indicated that once a work programme is finalised, repairs are expected to take approximately six days, assuring the public that the Ministry is committed to fast-tracking the process to restore the bridge to safe use.

The North Dzorwulu Pedestrian Footbridge, located along a busy highway in the Greater Accra Region, developed visible cracks after the trailer reportedly rammed into it. Parts of the structure have shifted, and some fittings were damaged.
