Traditional leaders perform rituals after deadly crash on Atwedie-Juaso road [Video]

Following the tragic accident on the Atwedie–Juaso stretch of the Accra–Kumasi highway that claimed 16 lives and left four others injured on July 28, 2025, traditional leaders of Juaso and Atwedie, together with officials of the Asante Akyem South Municipality, have performed purification rituals on the road.

The exercise, carried out by the chiefs and elders, was intended to appease the gods and curb the rising number of fatal crashes on the highway.

The incident, which involved a fuel tanker and a bus carrying members of the Saviour Church of Ghana, left the community of Obogu in mourning.

Nana Maafowaah Fenkyen, the Queen Mother of Atwedie, told Adom News that such customs form part of the community’s traditional response to recurring tragedies.

Meanwhile, Juaso Adontehene, Nana Obiri Kankam, urged government authorities to adopt urgent safety measures to prevent further road disasters.
