The Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry has acquired 40,000 acres of land from the Yeji Traditional Council to support the implementation of the Feed the Industry programme.

The initiative, which forms part of the government’s flagship Feed Ghana agenda, is designed to promote large-scale cultivation of raw materials for local industries, reduce import dependence and boost agro-industrial production.

Speaking during an engagement with Vice President Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang on Thursday, December 18, sector minister Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare said the ministry is working with private sector partners, including GB Foods, to roll out the programme.

She disclosed that commercial cultivation of tomatoes, pepper and ginger will soon begin on about 6,000 hectares of land, adding that the programme is expected to create jobs, support local farmers and strengthen value chain development across the agribusiness sector.

“In September, we will begin cultivating about 6,000 hectares of tomatoes and ginger. We have also acquired 40,000 acres of land from the Yeji Traditional Council to promote the Feed the Industry Programme,” she stated.
