Residents of Tolomedzi, a fishing community in the Oti Region, are appealing to the government and the Krachi East Municipal Assembly to construct a road to boost economic development in the area.
Since its establishment, the community has never had a major road, despite actively participating in all electoral processes. The need for proper infrastructure has become more urgent following the recent discovery of a hippopotamus in the area, a development that could transform Tolomedzi into a tourist attraction.
During a visit by Adom News, it was observed that the path leading to the community is nearly impassable, even on foot or by motorcycle. Residents say the poor road condition hampers access to healthcare and education, especially for pregnant women and children.
Community leader Godwin Agbeviako expressed frustration over the difficulties caused by the lack of a proper road, urging authorities to prioritize its construction. “Developing this road will connect Tolomedzi with neighboring communities and unlock economic opportunities for the entire region,” he said.
Alfred Kofi Barah, manager of the Wildlife Division of the Forestry Commission, also emphasized the importance of a road to improve accessibility, noting that current challenges deter tourists eager to explore the area.
Both leaders are calling on the government and the Krachi East Municipal Assembly to act swiftly to enhance accessibility and promote economic growth in Tolomedzi.
