President of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has announced a package of generous rewards for the Super Falcons and their technical team following their triumphant campaign at the 2024 CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The Super Falcons clinched a record-extending 10th WAFCON title on Saturday after coming from behind to defeat host nation Morocco 3-2 in a thrilling final.
Upon the team’s return to Nigeria, President Tinubu honoured all 24 players and the 11-member technical crew with national recognition, conferring on them the prestigious title of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON).
In addition to the national honours, the President announced cash and housing rewards. Each player will receive a cash prize of $100,000 (in naira equivalent), while each member of the technical team will take home $50,000.
Furthermore, all 35 recipients will be allocated three-bedroom apartments under the government’s Renewed Hope Housing Scheme.
“I hereby confer on the 24 players and the 11-man technical team the national honours of Officer of the Order of the Niger. Additionally, I have directed the allocation of three-bedroom apartments under the Renewed Hope Housing Scheme.
“There is also the cash award of the naira equivalent of $100,000 to each player and $50,000 to each member of the technical crew,” President Tinubu announced.
Meanwhile, four standout players—Rasheedat Ajibade, Esther Okoronkwo, Michelle Alozie, and Chiamaka Nnadozie—have been named in the official WAFCON Team of the Tournament, further underscoring Nigeria’s dominance at the continental showpiece.
