Three traders were arrested on Wednesday morning at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle for resisting a decongestion exercise.
The operation, led by personnel from the Ghana Police Service, National Security, and the Okaikwei South Sub-Metro, was aimed at clearing traders from the frontage of the Neoplan Station.
This follows a similar exercise carried out by the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) in collaboration with the Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly on Tuesday, May 20.
The initiative forms part of a broader, long-term strategy to improve sanitation and ensure the free movement of both pedestrians and vehicles within the capital.
In an interview with Adom News, the Okaikwei Metro Director, Mercy Odoi, emphasised that the exercise would not be a nine-day wonder but a sustained effort.
At Kwame Nkrumah Circle, vendors operating on pavements were instructed to dismantle their setups to create clear walkways. Vehicles parked along the main roads were also ordered to move, while individuals occupying spaces beneath the overhead bridge were told to vacate.
However, some traders expressed frustration, claiming there was no prior notice. Others argued that AMA Mayor, Michael Nii Kpakpo Allotey, had assured them they would not be evicted, hence their resistance.
