The Amanfro District Police Command, operating under the Weija Division, has arrested three men suspected of robbing passengers at Mallam Junction in the early hours of Thursday, October 16, 2025.
According to a police statement, the arrests followed swift intelligence-led action after officers received reports that four armed men were attacking commuters at the location.
Upon arrival, the suspects attempted to flee the scene, but three, identified as Stephen Amoani (42), Osei Antwi (30), and Kwame Mike, were captured.
A fourth suspect, Kofi Sammy, who was reportedly armed with a pump-action gun, managed to escape.
A search on the arrested men led to the discovery of several items believed to be stolen.
These included a cutlass concealed on Osei Antwi, a black Honda CR-V with trade plate number DV 3145-2025, three yellow gallons of akpeteshie, a bag containing GH₵12,055, and three mobile phones — a Samsung A05, an iPhone 16, and an Itel Android device.
While in police custody, suspect Kwame Mike escaped after requesting to use the washroom.
The officer who escorted him has been invited for questioning as part of an internal investigation.
On October 20, 2025, the remaining suspects, Amoani and Antwi, were arraigned before the Weija Circuit Court, where the charges were read and explained to them in Twi, a language they both understood.
They pleaded not guilty and were remanded into police custody to reappear on November 10, 2025.
Police say efforts are ongoing to track down the two suspects still at large — Kwame Mike and Kofi Sammy — to assist with further investigations.
All seized items have been retained as exhibits, and the impounded vehicle remains under police custody.
The Accra Regional Police Command reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property and urged the public to continue sharing credible information to help combat crime in the region.
