Three remanded over Newmont Mines pistol theft

Three people have been remanded into police custody after appearing before the Fiapre Circuit Court in connection with the theft of a service pistol belonging to the security detail of the Ahafo Newmont Mines Company at Ntotroso–Kenyase.

The suspects were arraigned before Her Honour Mrs. Akua Adoma Addae on provisional charges of stealing and possession of stolen property.

The court granted police enquiry bail to the female suspect, Priscilla Awuni, pending further investigation.

The Bono Regional Police Command, through its Public Relations Officer, Chief Inspector Thomas Akeelah, confirmed the arrests and subsequent court proceedings.

The case traces back to January 13, 2025, when a Beretta service pistol with serial number GHGP/NHQ/CTD/H78688Z-13 was reported missing from the mining site.

According to the police, an intelligence-led operation by the National Counter-Terrorism Unit (CTU) resulted in the arrest of four suspects on November 12, 2025—almost ten months after the weapon disappeared.

The suspects are Joseph Blackige, 25, Kwabena Dodzi, 44, Adu Yeboah Abraham, 46 and Priscilla Awuni, 18.

The first arrests targeted Blackige and Awuni in Ntotroso. Although a search of Blackige’s room produced no immediate leads, further interrogation helped investigators trace the weapon’s movement.

Blackige later admitted that he handed the pistol to Dodzi, who then directed officers to the home of Abraham.

A search at Abraham’s residence uncovered six BB cartridges, a quantity of suspected gunpowder and GH₵ 28,844.00 in cash

These items have been kept as evidence as the investigation continues.

The remaining three; Blackige, Dodzi, and Abraham, were remanded into police custody and are expected to return to court on November 28, 2025.
