The Ashanti North Police Command has confirmed that three young men have been convicted and sentenced to a total of 75 years’ imprisonment with hard labour for robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery.
The Offinso Circuit Court, presided over by Paul Oduro Esq., delivered the ruling on Thursday, September 26, 2025.
The convicts — Nasiru Abdul-Malik (22), Solomon Kwaku Annor Clinton (23), and Hakeem Ibrahim (20), all residents of Asempaneye — pleaded guilty to the charges.
Each was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment with hard labour for conspiracy to commit robbery and 15 years for robbery, with all sentences running concurrently. This means each will serve a total of 15 years in prison.
According to a press release issued on September 29, the robbery occurred in the early hours of September 23, 2025, at approximately 1:30 AM, when a DAF trailer truck (registration number ER 1703 X) transporting bags of fertiliser from Tema to Wa broke down near Asempaneye, a community along the Kumasi-Techiman Highway.
While the truck was parked at a roadside vulcanising shop for repairs, the three assailants, armed with an axe, machete, and a pair of scissors, attacked the truck’s driver and his mate, making off with the following items:
-
Samsung A24 Ultra smartphone valued at GH¢1,400
-
Itel smartphone worth GH¢400
-
Itel keypad phone valued at GH¢100
-
A black backpack and a red and blue bag containing personal items
-
Cash amounting to GH¢140
Thanks to swift action by the youth of Asempaneye, all three suspects were apprehended the same day, and the stolen items were recovered. During police investigations, the suspects admitted to committing the crime.
The convicts have been transferred to Kumasi Central Prisons to begin serving their sentences.
The Ashanti North Police Command commended the residents and youth of Asempaneye for their vigilance and cooperation, which were instrumental in ensuring the prompt arrest and prosecution of the culprits.
The Command also reaffirmed its commitment to fighting crime in the region and maintaining public safety.
“We commend the people of Asempaneye for their swift response and cooperation. The Police remain resolute in our duty to protect lives and property and ensure that those who break the law are held accountable,” the statement read.
