Three people have lost their lives while six others sustained injuries following a head-on collision between a Howo tipper truck and a Daewoo Matiz on the Kpando–Aziave road on Wednesday, December 3, 2025. One person survived without injuries.
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) said it received a distress call at 14:28 hours on Friday, December 5, prompting the Anfoega Fire Station rescue team to swiftly deploy to the scene.
According to the GNFS, six injured victims had already been rushed to the Margaret Marquart Catholic Hospital before the team arrived.
The tipper truck was carrying two occupants. The driver sustained injuries, while the mate escaped unhurt. The Daewoo Matiz had eight occupants; five were injured, while the driver and two others were trapped in the mangled vehicle. GNFS rescuers extricated all three, but the Matiz driver died instantly. The two others later died from their injuries at the hospital.
Eyewitness accounts indicate that the Daewoo Matiz veered into the lane of the oncoming tipper truck, resulting in the deadly crash. The smaller vehicle was completely destroyed, while the truck suffered damage to its windscreen, front bumper, right headlight, and fenders.
Police officers assisted in securing the area as GNFS personnel cleared debris and restored traffic flow along the route.
