Thomas Partey ready and motivated for World Cup qualifiers – Dr Nsenkyire

Thomas Partey

A member of the Black Stars Management Committee, Dr Richard Nsenkyire, has expressed confidence that Thomas Partey remains committed to representing Ghana despite his ongoing legal battles in the United Kingdom.

The 32-year-old midfielder is facing five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault, linked to alleged incidents between 2021 and 2022 during his time at Arsenal. He appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on August 5, with his next hearing scheduled for September 2.

Amid the court proceedings, there was speculation that Partey could be dropped from Ghana’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Mali. However, head coach Otto Addo has included the midfielder in his 24-man squad for the double-header, set for September 4 in Chad and September 8 in Accra.

Dr Nsenkyire insists that Partey is both ready and motivated to feature for the national team.

“Otto Addo is in touch with all the players, and I believe if Thomas Partey was not ready to play, he would have informed the head coach and the technical team, but I believe that he is ready and motivated to play against Chad and Mali,” he told Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show.

Ghana currently leads Group I with 15 points from six matches, three points ahead of Comoros and five clear of Madagascar, as the Black Stars aim for a fifth FIFA World Cup appearance.

The team is expected to open camp in Accra on Monday, September 1, ahead of the crucial qualifiers.
