Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mustapha Gbande, has dismissed claims by former National Signals Bureau (NSB) boss, Kwabena Adu-Boahene, that over GHĀ¢8 million was used in 2024 to procure election logistics and equipment for an opposition party.
Speaking on Asempa FMās Ekosii Sen show, Mr. Gbande described the allegations as a desperate attempt to avoid prosecution.
āThis is pure blackmail and a calculated ploy to divert attention from the real issue. If you misappropriate public funds and the law catches up with you, the best a lawyer can advise is not to blackmail others to escape justice,ā he said.
Adu-Boahene, who is facing prosecution for allegedly misappropriating GHĀ¢49 million, reportedly claimed in a memo to the National Security Coordinator that the funds were used for covert national security operations, including logistics for an opposition party.
He also accused the Attorney General of pursuing a politically motivated case against him.
But Mr. Gbande rejected the insinuation, insisting that no such support came to the NDC.
āYou canāt steal someoneās cassava and then claim you shared it with others when youāre caught. How does that clear you of the crime?ā Mr. Gbande argued.
He added: āThat blackmail tactic wonāt work. If youāve broken the law, face it. Donāt drag others into your mess.ā
Although Adu-Boahene did not mention the NDC by name in the memo, the party has strongly denied benefiting from any alleged support.
