President John Dramani Mahama has called on Ghanaians to put aside political and ideological differences as the nation mourns the eight lives lost in the military helicopter crash.
Delivering a solemn address on Thursday night, the President stressed that national tragedies demand collective compassion, not division or blame.
“This is not a time for division, speculation, or political point-scoring. It is a time for strength, for empathy, and for the enduring Ghanaian spirit that still stands tall when all else fails.
“Let our words be of comfort, our actions be of kindness, and our unity be the tribute we offer to those whose lives have been lost,” he urged.
The victims of the crash included high-ranking military officers and prominent public figures: Squadron Leader Anala, Flying Officer Twum Ampadu, Sergeant Ernest Addo, Alhaji Muniru Mohammed Limuna, Samuel Sarpong, Samuel Aboagye, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, and Alhaji Dr. Murtala Mohammed.
President Mahama described them as patriots whose lives were devoted to Ghana’s progress, adding that their deaths were not only a personal loss but a national one.
He urged the public to focus on honoring the memory of the departed through solidarity and respect.
“These eight individuals dedicated their lives to Ghana’s progress. That their final moments were spent in service is a testament to their unwavering commitment. We have lost some of our nation’s brightest minds.
“This is a moment of shared heartbreak, a need to reflect on the preciousness of life, the sacrifices of public service, and our gratitude for those who dedicate themselves to the well-being of Ghana,”he said.
Meanwhile, in the wake of a three-day national mourning, an inter-denominational state burial has been scheduled for Thursday, August 15, 2025.
