Thieves have stripped the St. Andrew Anglican Basic School “B” Block in Akyem Oda Old Town of its roofing sheets and metal desks, leaving the facility unusable and forcing a halt to ongoing renovation efforts.
Papa Yaw Amoah, Assembly Member for the Aseneye Electoral Area in the Birim Central Municipality of the Eastern Region, expressed shock over the incident, describing it as a major setback to efforts aimed at improving learning conditions for pupils.
Speaking to Adom News, Mr. Amoah explained that while the school’s “A” Block was recently re-roofed by the government after rainstorm damage, attention had shifted to renovating the “B” Block so pupils could return to a more spacious and comfortable learning environment.
The theft, however, has derailed that plan.
He is now appealing to the government, philanthropists, and benevolent organizations to urgently come to the aid of the school by providing roofing sheets and other essential items.
He warned that continued exposure to rain could lead to further deterioration of the building.
“We must act quickly to save what’s left and ensure our children have a safe place to learn,” Mr. Amoah pleaded.
