“We were told they drank with cows — that’s not just undignified, it’s dangerous,” declared Nana Kwame Afful, Director of Agrow Crown West Africa Company Limited, during the commissioning of a new mechanized borehole in the Ofosu community, Nkwanta South Municipality of the Oti Region.

Standing before a grateful gathering of residents, Mr. Afful didn’t mince words about the dire water situation that had plagued the community for years. “Even after the rains, you still need clean water. And what they had was far from safe. So, we stepped in — because when communities are in need, we act,” he said.

According to him, the new borehole marks a turning point in Ofosu’s public health and daily life. “This water will uplift their health. Their well-being will be transformed. No one should be forced to share a stream with livestock in 2025,” he emphasized.

The project is part of Agrow Crown West Africa’s ongoing commitment to community-driven development. “Many of our interventions start from the grassroots. Our boys on the ground identify the issues, and once we verify the need, we act swiftly,” Mr. Afful said. He cited the company’s construction of a school block in 2023 for the people of Lumbui in the Tolon District as another example of their impact.

But while celebrating the success of the Ofosu borehole, he issued a firm call for sustainability. “Maintenance is key. When there’s a leak — fix it. If the pump breaks — don’t wait. If they neglect it, they’ll lose it. It’s that simple,” he warned.

Mr. Afful also urged the government to scale up its efforts in other neglected communities. “We are doing our part. But there are many other areas where people are suffering without safe water. The government must step in too,” he added.

For the people of Ofosu, this borehole is more than a project — it is a symbol of change. It means no more walks to unsafe streams. No more health risks from contaminated sources. And above all, no more being forgotten.
