Former Assin Central Member of Parliament and New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential aspirant, Kennedy Agyapong, has called on his supporters to remain firm and disciplined following what he described as a disappointing outcome in the primary.
Speaking at his campaign office at Shiashie, Mr Agyapong admitted the result was a setback but insisted it did not signal the end of his political relevance or that of his followers in the NPP.
“The worst has happened, but that’s not the end of the road,” he told the gathering. “Politics is a long journey, and sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. What matters is how you conduct yourself after the results.”
He expressed gratitude to his campaign team and supporters for their dedication and sacrifices during the contest, saying their loyalty and energy would always be appreciated.
Mr Agyapong urged them to remain calm and avoid behaviour that could worsen tensions within the party.
“I am proud of all of you for the work you have done. I want everybody to stay peaceful and disciplined. The NPP is bigger than all of us, and we must protect it,” he said.
The former MP also stressed the importance of unity after the primaries, encouraging party members to set aside differences and rally behind the party’s broader objective.
“At the end of the day, we are one family. We may have competed fiercely, but after the contest, we must come together and support the party to move forward,” Mr Agyapong added.
His comments come as the NPP wraps up its presidential primary, a process many observers have described as one of the most competitive internal elections in the party’s history.
