Do you get a rise from one night stands and casual sexual encounters? It’s all about passion when it comes to mind-blowing sex, right?

Actually, the answer is no! According to a new study, planned out sex is the best kind there is. This is probably what all your friends in long-term relationships have been trying to tell you for years. And now, they have a study to prove their point.

Conscientious, plan-ahead couples have more satisfying sex lives, according to the study published in The Journal of Sex Research.

The findings first appeared on Quartzy.com – a lifestyle website that offers tips to living well in the new economy.

Researchers from Ruhr University in Germany surveyed nearly 1 000 couples about their sex lives.

Each participant described their own personality and their partner’s by using the Big Five personality framework – which includes extroversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, neuroticism, and openness to experience.

“We wanted to know whether certain sexuality-related traits [i.e. traits that reflect how easily people become excited, or how sexually inhibited they are] are more or less relevant to sexual function than more broad, general personality traits,” study author Julia Velten told Quartz.

Their findings included a statistically significant correlation between conscientious people of both sexes and higher sexual satisfaction. Conscientious people had fewer sexual problems.

“Men who are thorough and dutiful may feel the need to satisfy their partner sexually, which may, in turn, lead to better sexual function of their partners,” the study authors said
