It was a night of triumph and deep emotion for Empress Gifty at the 26th Telecel Ghana Music Awards, as her soul-stirring anthem “Watch Me” was crowned Traditional Gospel Song of the Year.
Overcome with emotion, the gospel diva broke down in tears on stage while dedicating the award to her late mother, Agaga, revealing that the song was the last project they worked on together before her passing.
With the awards night coinciding with Mother’s Day, the moment was especially heartfelt, drawing warm applause and teary-eyed support from the audience.
Empress Gifty also took a moment to give a special shoutout to Kwame Eugene, the songwriter behind “Watch Me,” acknowledging his creative contribution to what has now become one of the most celebrated gospel songs of the year.
She beat strong competitors in the category including MOG, Piesie Esther, Diana Hamilton and Mavis Asante, to clinch the award.
