Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has raised concerns about increasing friction between Members of Parliament (MPs) and District Chief Executives (DCEs), cautioning that the rivalry is hampering development efforts in the region.
Dr. Amoakohene noted that the strained relationship between the two groups of local leaders has slowed the implementation of major projects and disrupted coordination at the district level.
Addressing journalists, he described the situation as unhealthy and urged stronger collaboration to facilitate the smooth execution of government initiatives across the region.
“The rivalry and the fact that they are not on very good terms will hinder the approval of the District Assemblies Common Fund, which is meant for the MPs, and some use that as a way to settle scores,” he said.
He further observed that in several districts, weak communication between MPs and DCEs has caused unnecessary tension and confusion, delaying crucial development activities.
“In some of the districts, because they may not understand each other, they decide or pretend not to be aware of initiatives coming from the assemblies. This is not helpful. For local governance to work effectively, we need to carry along all stakeholders,” he added.
The Minister appealed to both MPs and DCEs to put cooperation ahead of competition to speed up development and advance the government’s agenda for the region.
