Ghanaian rapper Kofi Jamar and his former record label, GADone Records, are locked in a public standoff following Jamar’s announcement that he is no longer with the label.
In a series of social media posts, Jamar revealed that while his contract officially ends this year, GADone Records has been unresponsive since 2024. According to him, all attempts to seek closure have been ignored.
The rapper expressed frustration about the label’s silence, describing it as cruel and indicative of how artists are sometimes treated.
He added that he’s seeking legal counsel to navigate the remainder of the contract.
Shortly after the posts gained traction online, GADone Records issued a formal press release countering Jamar’s claims.
The label stated that the artist remains under contract and has not fulfilled all his obligations. It accused him of breaching the agreement through unauthorized music releases and business engagements without the label’s consent.
GADone further asserted that Jamar had “full and ongoing access” to his designated managers and regional head, and warned that his public comments could be damaging to the label’s reputation.
Jamar, however, fired back again on social media, questioning how a label could “go inactive for almost a year” and expect the artist not to seek alternative means of survival.
While the label has stated it will make no further public comments for now, the fallout has triggered wider conversations online about artist-label relationships in Ghana.
