Tems makes history as first Nigerian to perform at FIFA Club World Cup final halftime show

Nigerian singer and songwriter Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, has made history by becoming the first Nigerian artist to perform at the FIFA Club World Cup final halftime show.

The groundbreaking performance took place at the iconic MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, USA, during the final match of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.

Tems shared the stage with global music heavyweights including American rapper Doja Cat and Colombian singer J Balvin, delivering a high-energy performance that showcased Afrobeats to a worldwide audience.

The halftime show was creatively curated by Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, who aimed to blend diverse cultures and musical styles into a powerful, unified performance.

To preserve the integrity of the pitch during the final, the performance was held on a specially designed aerial platform above the stands, making the show visually stunning and technically innovative.

The event drew a star-studded audience, including former U.S. President Donald Trump, global celebrities, football legends, and top executives from FIFA and the entertainment industry.

Social media has since been flooded with praise for Tems, with fans and commentators alike celebrating her historic performance and the global recognition of Afrobeats as a powerful musical force.
