The killing of two Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) officers at Nagani and the alleged assault on civilians by military personnel in Basyonde, both in the Upper East Region, has drawn strong condemnation from Tempane MP Madam Akanvariba.
In a statement issued on Monday, November 3, 2025, Madam Akanvariba described the incidents as “deeply troubling and unacceptable,” expressing sorrow over the death of one officer and wishing the injured officer a speedy recovery. She extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and the entire Immigration Service.
“It is with deep sorrow and grave concern that I address two unfortunate and deeply troubling incidents that have occurred in the Tempane Constituency over the past 24 hours,” she said, adding that “violence of this nature is reprehensible and a direct affront to the rule of law.”
The MP further condemned the reported actions of some military personnel who allegedly stormed Basyonde following the Nagani shooting, attacking residents and leaving several injured. She said the incident had heightened fear and insecurity among constituents.
“I categorically state that such military action against innocent civilians is unacceptable and unjustifiable. While the state must investigate criminal acts and maintain law and order, it must not punish the innocent for the actions of a few,” she stressed.
Madam Akanvariba called on the government, the Ghana Armed Forces, and other security agencies to:
- Conduct a swift and transparent investigation into both the Nagani shooting and the military operation in Basyonde.
 - Ensure accountability for all unlawful acts of violence, whether committed by civilians or security officers.
 - Restore trust, peace, and security in the affected communities through lawful and transparent means.

She assured residents of her continued commitment to their safety and human rights, urging calm as investigations progress.
“As your Member of Parliament, I assure you that your safety, dignity, and rights will always be my priority. I urge you all to remain calm and law-abiding while the authorities investigate these incidents thoroughly,” she added.
