Residents of Tema Community One Site Three have embarked on a protest against what they describe as a forceful eviction by the Tema Development Corporation (TDC).
According to them, the move by TDC is to pave the way for redevelopment, making their lives miserable.
In an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, the residents expressed outrage over the situation.
They stated that their homes and businesses are now under threat and vowed to resist any attempt to eject them from their rightfully acquired properties.
“We bought these houses and own them, but they now want to take over available spaces here, claiming all lands in Tema have been sold. Only four storeys were supposed to be here, but they made it eight and now want to build 15.
“The entire area is now congested. We can barely feel fresh air and are struggling with mobile network. They promised us libraries and playgrounds, but none of that was fulfilled. We won’t allow them,” a disgruntled resident said.
Another added, “We’ve gone to see the Managing Director three times, but he told us it is not negotiable; the plan will be carried out. But we believe that TDC must comply with the MoU.”
The residents further called for government intervention to halt the planned eviction and protect their rights, threatening a series of demonstrations.
