Teenage girls in Nkwanta South laud government’s free sanitary pad initiative

In an effort to improve menstrual health and hygiene, teenage girls in the Nkwanta South Municipality of the Oti Region have expressed deep gratitude for the government’s provision of sanitary pads.

This initiative represents a significant shift from traditional and less sanitary options, such as rags and cotton, that many girls have relied on during their menstrual cycles.

Due to the unavailability or unaffordability of sanitary products, these girls often faced discomfort, restricted mobility, and health issues, which adversely affected their daily activities, school attendance, and overall well-being.

The recent government initiative to supply sanitary pads is set to revolutionize the way these young women experience menstruation, ensuring greater comfort and hygiene.

During an official handover ceremony, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Joseph Antwi Awal, emphasized the importance of using these sanitary pads to maintain hygiene.

He noted that ongoing conflicts in the area have made it difficult for many parents to afford sanitary products for their daughters, underscoring the necessity for government intervention.

The MCE also encouraged the girls to prioritize their education and personal development, advising them to avoid distractions, particularly premature relationships.

“Your education and self-development should be your top priority,” he stated.

“Focus on your studies, and the future will be bright,” he added, promoting empowered and informed life choices.

He urged the people of Nkwanta South to continue advocating to enhance the needed development.

The beneficiaries expressed their appreciation and commitment to making the most of the resources provided.

This initiative not only offers immediate relief and support but also represents a progressive step toward gender equality and educational empowerment.

Some recipients, speaking in an interview with Adom News, shared their gratitude for the support, stating, “They will no longer have to fear embarrassment or miss school because of their periods.
