Vice President Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has urged graduates of the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) to pursue innovation grounded in purpose, integrity and collaboration, stressing that technical skills alone are insufficient to drive national development.

Addressing the 10th Congregation Ceremony of UENR in Sunyani on Saturday, December 13, the Vice President said meaningful progress in science and technology requires discipline, perseverance and the courage to experiment, including the willingness to fail and learn from setbacks.

She emphasised that innovation must be shaped by Ghana’s unique realities, calling for solutions that are affordable, accessible, sustainable and capable of addressing the everyday challenges facing citizens.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang commended the vision of the university’s founding leadership and praised the University Council, management, faculty and traditional authorities for their stewardship. She also lauded lecturers and researchers for advancing knowledge and innovation, and expressed appreciation to parents and guardians for supporting the education of their wards.

The ceremony was attended by the Paramount Chief of the Dormaa Traditional Area and Chairman of the University Council, Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyeman Badu II, who assured that UENR is committed to training industry-ready professionals.

He noted that hiring a technologist is equivalent to hiring a solution, reaffirming the university’s relevance to industry needs.

Meanwhile, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Elvis Asare-Bediako, disclosed that the university graduated 2,238 students in 2025. The number comprised 16 doctoral graduates, 218 master’s degree holders, 1,867 Bachelor of Science graduates and 235 diploma awardees.

He added that out of the 2,102 undergraduate students, 1,289 were male, representing 67 per cent, while 271 were female, accounting for 34 per cent.
