Black Stars captain Jordan Ayew has hailed the collective effort behind Ghana’s qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, marking a strong comeback after missing the previous Africa Cup of Nations.

Speaking to Adom TV, Ayew emphasized the importance of unity: “It is teamwork, not about one person. We gathered ourselves and made sure we were ready for the task.

“It was a huge mountain to climb, but we managed to climb it as a team, together with the technical staff and the executives.

“With their support and team effort, we were able to put smiles on the faces of the Ghanaians,” the forward added.

Ayew’s comments highlight the resilience and cohesion that have defined this Black Stars squad, which will compete in the United States, Mexico, and Canada for the 2026 tournament.

Ghana is determined to restore its standing on football’s grandest stage, aiming to give fans reasons to celebrate and build on the spirit that propelled them to the quarter-finals in the 2010 World Cup.

Making their fifth World Cup appearance, the Black Stars have been drawn in Group L. They open their campaign against Panama on June 17, face England on June 23, and conclude the group stage versus Croatia on June 27.

In preparation for the tournament, Ghana will play friendly matches against Germany and Austria later this month, followed by games against Mexico in May and Wales in June, nine days before the World Cup kicks off.

After group stage exits in both 2014 and 2022, the team is focused on delivering a more competitive performance in North America.
