The Ministry of Sports and Recreation has announced an improved medal bonus package for Team Ghana ahead of the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, with gold medal winners set to receive US$10,000.
Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Iddie Adams revealed the enhanced incentive scheme during a meeting with Team Ghana in Glasgow as the country prepares for the continental multi-sport event.
Under the revised package, athletes who win silver medals will receive US$3,000, while bronze medallists will be rewarded with US$2,000.
Adams said the increase is aimed at motivating Ghanaian athletes to compete at the highest level and secure more podium finishes at the Games.
In addition to the government’s official rewards, the Minister announced his personal commitment to add US$1,000 to the prize money of every Ghanaian athlete who wins a gold medal.
“We have increased the prize money for all our athletes. A gold medallist will be given US$10,000, while silver medallists will receive US$3,000 and bronze medallists US$2,000,” Adams told Sporty FM.
“I have personally decided to add $1,000 to each athlete’s prize money,” he added.
The Ministry said the improved package demonstrates the government’s commitment to recognising sporting excellence, improving athlete welfare and encouraging Team Ghana to achieve greater success on the international stage.
Adams also charged the athletes to represent the country with discipline, determination and pride, while assuring them of the government’s continued support throughout the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
