The Northern Regional Police Command, in collaboration with the IGP’s Special Operations Team, has launched an intensified security operation to curb criminal activities in the Tamale Metropolis ahead of the festive season.
A statement issued on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, said the operation aims to strengthen public safety, maintain peace, and ensure residents and visitors can go about their daily activities without fear.
Several intelligence-led raids have already been conducted in known criminal hotspots, resulting in the arrest of multiple suspects involved in various offences. All arrested individuals have been processed for court, with cases currently before the Tamale Circuit Court.
During an operation on Monday, December 1, one suspect engaged police in a shootout. The suspect sustained gunshot wounds and was later pronounced dead. His body has been deposited at the Tamale Teaching Hospital for autopsy and further investigation.
The Police Command urged the public to continue having confidence in the Ghana Police Service as it intensifies efforts to tackle crime, particularly drug-related offences, in the metropolis.
