The project was inspired by Dutch athletes who, during the 2023 Muskathlon charity event, saw firsthand the housing challenges facing some families.

Their experience led to a commitment to not only provide shelter but also restore dignity and hope to vulnerable residents of the community.

At the handover ceremony on Thursday, August 1, 2025, in Nante, municipal leaders, traditional authorities, pastors, and community members gathered to celebrate the milestone.

Delivering remarks on behalf of the National Director of Compassion International Ghana, Kobina Yeboah Okyere stressed that the project was “not just about bricks and mortar” but about “restored hope, renewed dignity, and the promise of stability for families who, for years, have longed for a safe and permanent place to call home.”

He added that the effort reflected Compassion’s vision of building “thriving and resilient families,” noting that a safe home “fosters peace, offers stability, and becomes a sacred space where children can dream, grow and flourish.”

The initiative began in October 2023 during the Muskathlon in Kintampo, when visiting Dutch athletes encountered the severe housing conditions affecting some beneficiaries of Compassion International Ghana.

Deeply moved, they partnered through Compassion Netherlands to fund the construction of 22 one-bedroom homes, each fitted with a kitchen, toilet, and bathroom.

District Chief Executive for Kintampo South, Zurri Wilfred, commended the organization for its sustained contributions to the area and urged recipients to maintain their new properties.

One beneficiary, a mother who had previously shared a single room with eight other people, expressed heartfelt appreciation: “I am so grateful to Compassion and the church partners for this beautiful home, which will give my children and me the peace and security we have not had in years.”

Compassion International Ghana, a Christian non-profit, has spent the past two decades partnering with more than 450 local churches across 13 regions to deliver holistic child and youth development programmes.

Operating in over 92 districts, it currently serves over 100,000 registered children and youth, providing spiritual, educational, health, and socio-economic support.

The organization’s long-term goal is to reach 150,000 children and young people in poverty-stricken communities by 2030.

Green Ghana: Compassion Int’l Ghana advocates for diverse climate initiatives https://www.adomonline.com/green-ghana-compassion-intl-ghana-advocates-for-diverse-climate-initiatives/ Fri, 07 Jun 2024 14:25:47 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2406208 In recent years, the government’s deliberate efforts to celebrate Green Ghana Day have yielded significant success.

However, Florence Sena Amponsah, Senior Manager of Program Support at Compassion International Ghana, has urged corporate Ghana to explore additional avenues for championing climate initiatives.

She advocates for developing comprehensive climate strategies, sponsoring youth-led initiatives, and providing training on the critical importance of climate change.

Compassion International Ghana’s Commitment to Ecosystem Improvement

Madam Amponsah highlighted several initiatives by Compassion International Ghana aimed at enhancing ecosystems within the communities they serve.

Central to their efforts is the Environmental Stewardship Creation Care (ESCC) strategy. This strategy is designed to promote ecosystems that support the development and thriving of children, youth, and families, aligning with CIGH’s vision.

Empowering Staff and Youth for Climate Action

Compassion International Ghana has also focused on raising awareness among staff about the importance of ecosystems. Recently, five staff members received training on climate change and reporting.

Recognizing the critical role of youth in driving climate initiatives, Compassion International Ghana in partner with local church partners organized a three-day workshop in September 2022 for 40 youth participants, in collaboration with key stakeholders including the Ghana Youth Environmental Movement (GYEM) and the Green Africa Youth Organization (GAYO).

The Church in Climate Change Initiatives

Compassion International Ghana recognizes the vital role of the church in sensitizing communities about climate change initiatives.

In May 2024, CIGH organized the National Pastors’ Conference, bringing together church leaders from across the country with whom it partners.

A dedicated session on climate change featured Dr. Christopher Ampadu, West Africa Director for Samaritan Strategy.

Dr. Ampadu engaged over 400 pastors in key conversations about climate change and discussed how the church can spearhead these initiatives.

Sustaining Green Ghana Day efforts

Amponsah emphasized the importance of monitoring the trees planted on Green Ghana Day to ensure their growth and sustainability.

To this end, Compassion International Ghana and local Church partners have developed a data tool specifically for monitoring these trees. Since 2022, the organization has planted over 19,000 seedlings.

Compassion International Ghana and Church partners remain committed to fostering a sustainable environment and encourages corporate Ghana to broaden their climate initiatives beyond Green Ghana Day.

About Compassion International Ghana

The organization executes this mandate by partnering with local churches to reach out to needy children in the local communities. Compassion International Ghana currently caters to over 98,000 children in Ghana.

Compassion Int’l Ghana calls for child development interventions https://www.adomonline.com/compassion-intl-ghana-calls-for-child-development-interventions/ Tue, 05 Dec 2023 14:53:44 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2328319 Non-governmental organisation, Compassion International Ghana (CIGH), has called on the government to roll out child development policies.

The organisation made the clarion call at the second edition of the Thriving Child Seminar Series (THriCSS) under the theme; Child Development Milestones and Holism.

The National Director of CIGH, Kobina Yeboah Okyere, emphasised the need to recognize developmental milestones as the best foundation for children.

“The concept of holism underscores that each child is a unique individual with interconnected physical, emotional, social, and cognitive dimensions.

“As an organization, our mission is to holistically release children from poverty, extending our programming efforts to cover these four critical areas, along with caregivers and the broader community,” he stated.

Senior Programme Design Specialist at Compassion International, Tanzania, Dr. George Martin Malima, highlighted the key role of appropriate interventions at each stage of a child’s life.

Identifying the four milestones of child development; pre-natal stage, infancy, toddlerhood stage, and preschool stage, he explained each require specific interventions to ensure proper growth.

“Tailoring specific interventions at each stage is critical because a challenge at one stage can affect the next stage. As child development implementers, we should be able to provide the necessary needs,” he noted.

Dr. Malima also touched on the nurturing care framework for children, including good health, adequate nutrition, responsive care giving, opportunities for early learning, and security and safety.

For the part of Unit Head of Early Childhood Education at Ghana Education Service (GES), Isaac Atta-Baah, he urged participants to align their curriculum with the Early Childhood Education (ECE) Policy.

He emphasized the importance of appropriate curriculum that promotes quality learning experiences and enhances the holistic development of children.

He added the policy goal must focus on creating an enabling environment that supports planning and management systems for quality, effective, and efficient ECE delivery.

Mr. Atta-Baah outlined six action areas needed for early childhood education, including effective planning and management, curriculum development and implementation, competent teachers, family and community engagement, child-friendly safe space and environment, and monitoring, regulation, and quality assurance.

He further commended CIGH for the seminar which provided implementers and caregivers with an opportunity to update their knowledge and competencies in the field.

This quarterly initiative aims to foster continuous learning and development among staff and child advocates within and beyond the country.

The maiden edition focused on the policy framework surrounding children, encompassing legal aspects and practical applications while the latest seminar delved into the intricate journey of child development.

Compassion International Ghana launches novel child abuse tracker https://www.adomonline.com/compassion-international-ghana-launches-novel-child-abuse-tracker/ Wed, 21 Dec 2022 09:31:10 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2198327 Compassion International has developed a platform which will help track the report of abuse cases and attend to them accordingly.

This platform, Resolver is a child protection reporting system designed to track all incidents of abuse, neglect, and exploitation experienced by participants under the programme.

Speaking on behalf of the National Director, Mrs Florence Sena Amponsah, the Senior Manager of Programme Support noted that Compassion International Ghana has strengthened accountability in reporting abuse cases.

This she indicated was through creating awareness and partnering with government agencies such as the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU), and Social Welfare among others to achieve this objective.

In the address, Mrs Amponsah highlighted that Compassion Ghana’s church partners have been instrumental in creating a safe environment for participants to report cases of abuse.

She also noted that research indicates that victims of abuse, neglect and exploitation prefer reporting the incident to people they are comfortable with.

“However, our experience from across our operational areas shows that not everyone who experiences abuse, neglect, or exploitation feels comfortable telling another person.

“Best practices indicate that providing options for reporting increases the likelihood of victims finding a reporting method that they feel comfortable with and will be more willing to access,” she detailed.

A 2022 Incident Management study by Navex (Ethics Point) found that across 3,470 companies with incident management systems that logged more than 1.37 million incidents in 2021, 50% of those incidents were reported anonymously.

Thirty percent of those incidents were made via a telephone-based hotline, while 40% were made to another person and 29% were made via a website-based reporting form.

She also made a clarion call to all stakeholders and caregivers to be conscious of child protection and be active advocates of the wellbeing of children to complement the efforts of Compassion International Ghana.

Resolver is an internal reporting system which can only be seen by Compassion and its Frontline Church Partners.

This is to create a reporting channel for participants who experience any form of abuse, so the needed support is provided for their restoration.

The resolver was developed by Compassion International and its partners in USA.

At the launch, government stakeholders on child protection, DOVVSU and Social Welfare took turns to educate patrons on the types of child abuse highlighting child neglect as one of the major forms of abuse prevalent and admonished caregivers to put in the effort to be present in the lives of their children to help them become fulfilled and responsible adults.

The launch took place at Mpraeso Akrpong Presbyterian Church, one of CIGH’s church partners.

Compassion International Ghana (CIGH), is a Christian Non-Profit Organization and a member of Compassion International Incorporated, headquartered in Colorado Springs, USA.

Compassion International Ghana is Christ centered, Church driven, and Child focused with a vision of releasing children from poverty in Jesus’ Name.
