A suspected case of food poisoning has claimed the lives of a food vendor and her two-year-old son, leaving two other relatives in critical condition at Kwahu Atibie in the Eastern Region.
The deceased, identified as Taanii, who sold fufu at Mpraeso, and her child, were found unresponsive at home along with other family members, sparking a police investigation.
According to the family’s landlord, Osarfo Wiafe Emmanuel, their final day appeared routine.
“A day before the incident, the family went to sell the food and came back peacefully. We do not know what happened in the night. In the morning, they couldn’t wake up,” he told Adom News’ Akwasi Dwamena.
The bodies have been deposited at the Kwahu Government Hospital, Atibie, for autopsy, while the surviving relatives are undergoing intensive treatment at the facility.
The incident has heightened concerns about food safety and public health, especially since one of the victims was a food vendor.
Health authorities have cautioned the public to be vigilant about food hygiene and seek prompt medical care if they experience symptoms of food poisoning.
