Police in the Ashanti South Region have arrested a 30-year-old man for allegedly shooting and injuring the Dompoasehene during a funeral ceremony in Obuasi.
The suspect, identified as Nana Yaw Dankwa, was taken into custody on Saturday, 29 November 2025, after officers on duty heard a gunshot and rushed to intervene.
Police say they managed to disarm him and recovered an unregistered single-barrel gun loaded with ammunition.
The victim, a chief from Adansi Dompoase, was immediately taken for medical treatment and has since been discharged.
The suspect remains in police custody and is expected to be arraigned in court as investigations continue.
Authorities are urging the public to refrain from carrying weapons to social events, particularly funerals, where tensions can quickly escalate.
