Support workers in conflict zones – PCG to government

The Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG) has called on the government to join in providing critical incentives for frontline staff serving in deprived and conflict-prone areas like Bawku.

The appeal forms part of the key outcome of the church’s Development and Social Services (DSS) consultation held at Abokobi.

The four-day consultation reached strong resolutions aimed at strengthening PCG’s social services. Top among them was the urgent need to recognise and motivate dedicated staff working in challenging environments.

Stakeholders at the consultation recommended that incentives should extend beyond monetary compensation to include practical measures like tax waivers and intentional social engagement efforts by leadership to bolster morale.

In healthcare, the consultation urged the Presbyterian Health Services (PHS) to deepen its delivery in precarious communities with the PHS moving beyond a solely facility-based model to incorporate community and field-based case management.

This would enhance accessibility, promote early intervention through telemedicine, and ensure more responsive care for underserved rural populations, the forum underscored.

Participants further resolved to aggressively implement an Entrepreneurial Handbook to foster a mindset of change towards entrepreneurship, specifically targeting the youth and women to equip them with skills for self-reliance.
