Support Agric and ATVET; they create real value – Bechem chief urges gov’t

The Chief of Bechem, Nana Opaw Nwomaso Boampong Bekoe, has called on the government to prioritize and expand support for programmes in agriculture, agribusiness, and technical and vocational education and training (ATVET), describing them as key drivers of national wealth creation and youth empowerment.

Speaking at the Springboard Road Show 2025 in Bechem, Ahafo Region, Nana Boampong
Bekoe commended the Ghana Grows programme for championing agricultural transformation and inspiring young people to pursue agribusiness and entrepreneurship.

“I’m happy we’re talking about agriculture, agribusiness, and ATVET because when you go
to Kumasi, most of the big houses there belong to farmers and people connected to
agriculture,” he said.

“These are the kinds of programmes the government should sponsor because they prepare young people to create real value.”

The Chief further urged for the establishment of a structured market linkage system to guide young farmers and entrepreneurs on how to connect with buyers and sell their produce efficiently.

“When young people grow their produce, they should have a guide showing where to sell,
who to contact, and their next steps,” he added.

“That’s how they can grow stronger businesses and benefit fully from their hard work.”

The Bechem edition of the Springboard Road Show 2025 drew hundreds of young people
eager to learn, network, and share their transformation stories. One standout testimony came from Esther; a Ghana Grows participant whose journey from unemployment to
entrepreneurship inspired the audience.

After receiving full sponsorship to attend the Empower360 Resin Arts Training in Accra,
Esther acquired practical skills, mentorship, and a business starter pack that helped her start her own resin art business.

“I’ve learnt colour combinations, gained confidence, and can now approach people and teach others,” she said proudly.

The Ahafo Regional Minister, Charity Gardiner, praised the Springboard Road Show
Foundation for its far-reaching impact across Ghana.

“Through Ghana Grows, nearly 80% of participants are young women now contributing
meaningfully to agriculture and enterprise,” she noted.

Comfort Ocran, Executive Director of the Foundation, encouraged participants to build
enduring enterprises grounded in character and innovation.

“True capital begins with what’s in your hands,” she said. “Diligence, integrity, and tenacity
build businesses that last.”

Other dignitaries present included Michael Mensah of the Youth Employment Agency,
Madam Nancy Arthur of PRESEC, and Kwashiga Sitsofe Adjorlolo, representative of the Tano
South MCE.

19 editions of the Springboard Road Show, running under the Ghana Grows programme,
continues its 16-region journey to empower over 500,000 young people through skills training, mentorship, and enterprise development.
