Residents of about ten communities in the Suaman District of the Western North Region have appealed to the district assembly for urgent intervention over the poor state of roads in the area.
Communities including Donkorkrom, Ameyawkrom, Asantekrom, Agyeikrom, and Aeroplane Park say the deteriorating road conditions are crippling economic activities, particularly farming, which is the primary livelihood for most residents.
During a familiarisation tour by the District Chief Executive, Obour Vasco, residents expressed frustration over the long-standing neglect of their road networks.
They explained that transporting farm produce to market centres has become a costly and risky venture due to the bad roads, leading to post-harvest losses and low income.
In addition to the economic toll, the poor roads are also affecting access to healthcare. Residents cited difficulties in transporting the sick and pregnant women in labour to health facilities, sometimes resulting in fatal consequences.
The District Chief Executive, Obour Vasco, in response, assured the communities of the assembly’s commitment to equitable development across the district. He said that while weather conditions have delayed immediate works, the roads will be reshaped once the rainy season ends.
The communities are hopeful that their plea will receive the necessary attention to ease transportation challenges and improve their living conditions.
