The Parents Association of Ghana (PAG) has praised improvements in the quality of food served to students across the country under President John Dramani Mahama’s administration.
Speaking to Adom News during an assessment of the President’s first year in office, PAG’s Public Relations Officer, Irene Sam, described the government’s performance in the education sector as encouraging, while noting that there is still room for improvement.
According to her, food quality in schools was a major concern under the previous administration but has seen significant improvement in recent times.
“Under the previous government, food quality was a problem in many schools, but we have seen a clear improvement under this administration,” she said.
Irene Sam also highlighted upgrades in schools that were previously classified as low-grade, noting improvements in academic performance. She added that the government has pledged to abolish the double-track system.
On infrastructure, she acknowledged that while few new projects have been initiated, some old and deteriorating school facilities have been rehabilitated.
She became emotional while reacting to the alleged assault of a teacher at Kade Senior High Technical School, Michael Quayson, who was remanded by the Kade District Court on Tuesday.
She used the occasion to appeal to parents to take greater responsibility in guiding their children to avoid violence in schools.
