A school clean-up exercise at the Assin Krofofrodo D/A Basic School has ended in violence, leaving a Junior High School (JHS) 1 student hospitalized with severe cutlass wounds after an altercation with a female schoolmate.
The incident occurred during a mandatory campus clearing activity, during which pupils were tasked with weeding the school grounds.
According to reports, a 15-year-old JHS 2 female pupil allegedly attacked the young boy following repeated instances of unwanted physical contact.
The female pupil claims that despite her multiple warnings, the victim repeatedly harassed her by touching her breasts while they were working.
Driven to anger by the boy’s refusal to stop the inappropriate behaviour, the girl grabbed a cutlass and slashed him on his inner wrist.
The victim sustained deep lacerations and suffered from profuse bleeding before being rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency medical care.
The situation has escalated further, with the victim’s family accusing the school’s management of gross negligence.
The boy’s relatives claim that school authorities failed to intervene or provide immediate medical assistance when the incident occurred.
Speaking in an interview with AdomNews on behalf of the family, the victim’s elder sister, Joyce Enyan, expressed deep frustration over the school’s response.
She alleged that the boy was left unattended for a significant period while bleeding before his parents, who were alerted while at a nearby farm, arrived to take him to the hospital themselves.
The family is now calling for a formal police investigation, not only into the circumstances of the attack but also into the conduct of the school administration.
They contend that the authorities failed in their duty of care to ensure the safety of the students during school hours and in their response to the medical emergency.
As of this time, school authorities are yet to issue an official statement regarding the allegations of negligence or the events surrounding the altercation.
