Senior lecturer at the University of Media, Arts and Communication – Institute of Journalism (UniMAC-IJ), Professor Etse Sikanku, has stressed that the strength of Ghana’s democracy is directly linked to the vibrancy and effectiveness of its political parties.
Speaking on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem, in the aftermath of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) National Delegates Conference held on Saturday, July 19, at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium, Professor Sikanku described the event as a crucial step in repositioning the party.
“How they manage the process to redeem themselves from the last elections is very important. The conference was the first step that people were watching closely,” he noted.
He lauded the successful organisation of the conference but urged party leaders to address the perceived disconnect between the grassroots and the party hierarchy.
“One of the major narratives within the party now is the feeling of disconnect between the grassroots and the top hierarchy. They must bring everyone on board so no one feels left out, because the grassroots form the base of the party,” he added.
Professor Sikanku further advised the NPP to establish strong internal structures to foster unity and prepare effectively for future political contests.
