The Member of Parliament for Effutu and Minority Leader, Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, has expressed concern over the stalled dualisation of the Kasoa-Winneba highway, citing the growing inconvenience it poses to commuters.
Raising the issue on the Floor of Parliament on Wednesday, Mr Afenyo-Markin attributed the delay to outstanding payments owed to contractors, which he said had forced many to abandon their sites.
“Mr Speaker, the Kasoa-Winneba road — the contractor has left the site, and it is making motorists suffer,” he said. “Mr Speaker, I would like you to let them know that the contractors are working on major roads that need to be completed.”
His remarks came a day after Parliament approved a $360 million financing agreement between the Government of Ghana and the International Development Association (IDA) of the World Bank Group to support the country’s post-crisis economic recovery and long-term resilience.
The Minority Leader urged the government to prioritise the payment of arrears owed to road contractors, warning that further delays would hamper critical infrastructure development and disrupt the daily lives of commuters.
“The stalled projects not only hinder economic progress but also affect the daily lives of commuters,” he emphasised.
