Sports Ministry working to clear Black Queens’ owed bonuses – Kofi Adams

Black Queens

The Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Iddie Adams, says the ministry is working on settling the bonuses owed to the Black Queens following their participation in the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

Ghana finished third in the WAFCON after beating South Africa on penalties in the playoff game in July.

The senior women’s national team has still not been paid the bonuses owed to them after their bronze-medal-winning performance in Morocco.

With concerns being raised over the unsettled bonuses ahead of the 2026 WAFCON qualifier against Egypt later this month

“Their last bonus has not been paid, not all their bonuses,” Kofi Adams said in an interview with Joy News.

“It’s in the process of being worked on. They are not the only ones. Even the U-20 boys have not received their packages.”

The Minister, however, assured that every team’s packages will be settled.

“Surely everybody will be settled. This is a government that settled areas of coaches that were sacked in 2020, and they refused to pay them.

“The CK Akonos, the Chris Hutton, and all those persons, we paid them. So if we have paid them, there’s no way we ignore these athletes,” he added.

Kim Lars Bjorkegren’s side will face Egypt later this month in the final round of qualifiers, hoping to be at next year’s tournament, which also serves as a World Cup qualifier.
