Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has reaffirmed the Government of Ghana’s dedication to restoring enthusiasm and public interest in local football.
The Ghana Premier League has seen a decline in recent years, plagued by issues such as match-fixing and questionable officiating, leading to reduced spectator turnout and waning support.
The 2024/25 season concluded without a headline sponsor, highlighting the growing challenges facing the top-flight league.
Speaking at the 2025 Ghana Football Awards, Mr. Adams emphasized that President John Dramani Mahama is determined to revive the domestic game and restore its former glory.
“We want to see the potential of Ghana’s football reach its highest heights. This is why, under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama, government is committed to working with stakeholders to revive interest in the local game,” the Sports Minister said.
“The local game must be revived,” he added.
Despite the hurdles, the recently concluded season saw Bibiani GoldStars crowned champions of the Ghana Premier League, while Asante Kotoko lifted the MTN FA Cup title.
