South Dayi DCE vows strict action against open defecation, strengthens sanitation enforcement

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for South Dayi, Mr. Courage Kokroko, has reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to empowering environmental health officers to intensify house-to-house education on the importance of household toilet facilities.

Speaking to Adom News at Kpeve during World Toilet Day activities, Mr. Kokroko emphasized that access to proper sanitation is vital for eliminating open defecation and safeguarding public health.

He urged residents to prioritize constructing toilets in their homes, stressing that community participation is key to the fight against open defecation.

The DCE highlighted that the Assembly is ready to provide support to help residents understand the health and environmental benefits of proper sanitation.

Mr. Kokroko also announced plans to appoint a Sanitation Prosecutor to enforce local sanitation by-laws. The prosecutor will have the authority to prosecute anyone engaging in open defecation or violating sanitation regulations.

“The era of leniency is over. Anyone who violates sanitation laws will face prosecution, and I will not favour anyone in the process,” he stated firmly.

The DCE noted that these measures are part of a broader initiative to ensure a cleaner, healthier South Dayi District, particularly as the nation observes World Toilet Day.

Residents are encouraged to cooperate with environmental officers and support the district’s efforts to achieve an open-defecation-free status.
