The Ghana Police Service has arrested social media personality Christford Affadu Danful, popularly known as Ekow Black, following the circulation of a viral video showing him physically assaulting a woman.
In a statement, the Police said the suspect was apprehended on Thursday, January 15, 2026, after an intelligence-led operation by the Inspector-General of Police’s Special Cyber Vetting Team in collaboration with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
“The Ghana Police Service has arrested a suspect captured in a viral video physically assaulting a woman,” the statement noted.
According to the Police, initial investigations indicate that the suspect and the victim previously lived together and had a strained relationship, which reportedly involved frequent disagreements that sometimes escalated into verbal and physical confrontations.
“Preliminary investigations suggest that the suspect and the woman, who formerly cohabited, had a history of disputes that allegedly developed into assaults,” the Police added.
The arrest comes after widespread public backlash on social media, with many users condemning the act and calling for accountability, particularly involving public figures and online influencers.
Danful, known for his online content and large digital following, is currently in police custody as investigations continue.
“Suspect Danful is in lawful custody and will be put before court to face the appropriate charges in accordance with the law,” the Police stated.
The Ghana Police Service reiterated its commitment to protecting citizens and addressing acts of violence, regardless of a suspect’s social standing or online popularity.
“The Service remains resolute in upholding the law and ensuring that offenders are dealt with decisively,” the statement concluded.
The case is expected to proceed to court in the coming days as investigators finalise prosecution processes.
