Small-Scale Miners Association clarifies position on IGP task force

The National Concerned Small Scale Miners Association, Ghana (NCSSMAG) has rejected claims that it opposes the operations of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Task Force on small-scale mining.

In a statement issued on Thursday, August 28, the Association clarified that it does not support illegal mining (galamsey) and fully backs the efforts of the IGP and security agencies to sanitize the sector.

According to NCSSMAG, recent voice notes circulating in the media were not an attack on the task force but were directed at situations where the equipment of licensed miners had been affected during operations.

The Association urged such miners to present their documents for assistance in retrieving their equipment.

It further announced plans to establish a Task Force on Environmental Restoration to work with communities in rehabilitating rivers and water bodies damaged by mining activities.

President of the Association, Michael Kwadwo Peprah, reaffirmed their commitment to responsible mining, environmental protection, and collaboration with government institutions to ensure lawful and sustainable operations in the sector.
