The Ahafo Ano South-East District Health Director has decried the shortage of nurses and midwives in the area, adversely impacting healthcare delivery.
According to Priscilla Sarkodie, health facilities, especially CHPS Compounds in the district, are unable to operate at full capacity due to the shortfall in health professionals.
She says support from allied health professionals and technicians can significantly enhance service delivery.
Ahafo Ano South-East District habours some of the deprived communities in the Ashanti region, including access to healthcare.
District Health Director, Priscilla Sarkodie, says shortage of health professionals and access to services like the internet make work difficult.
She also noted that poor road conditions hinder the transfer of patients from home to health facilities and the ability of caregivers to reach out.
She was speaking at an event to commemorate International Nurses Day on the theme: “Strengthening Leadership for Quality Healthcare and Global Impact”.
Meanwhile, a leader of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association in the Ashanti Region, Philemon Adu Brimpong, wants the Health Minister, Mintah Akandoh to resign from his position for failing to address critical issues in the sector.
