Former Ghana international Anthony Baffoe has urged the Ghana national football team to provide greater support for forward Antoine Semenyo, insisting improved teamwork is key to elevating his performances at the international level.

Semenyo, 26, has enjoyed an outstanding season at club level but has yet to replicate that form consistently for Ghana, managing just three goals in nearly five years with the senior national team.

Speaking at the German Ambassador’s Residence in Accra during a watch party for Ghana’s friendly against Germany on March 30, 2026, Baffoe highlighted the contrast between Semenyo’s club and national team environments.

“Semenyo is a top-class player, but at the moment, Black Stars are not Manchester City,” he said.

“So everything around him is totally different, and don’t forget, we are playing without the likes of Mohammed Kudus. Kamaldeen Sulemana just came back from injury.

“Thomas Partey is not 100% in shape, which is also fully understandable. They need to be in top form.

“I think Jordan Ayew had a very good match. He was very, very active on the pitch. So if those guys are really also in shape, I think Semenyo also will be good. They’ll provide better balls for him,” Baffoe added.

Despite scoring 15 goals across competitions this season, Semenyo endured a difficult international window, featuring in defeats to Austria and Germany.

The Black Stars are set to regroup in May for friendly matches against Mexico and Wales as preparations continue for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where Ghana will face Panama, England, and Croatia in Group L.
