The Sefwi Asuopiri community has been thrown into mourning as the final funeral rites for seven residents who lost their lives in a tragic road accident on January 7, 2026, are currently underway.

The mass burial service is taking place at the Sefwi Asuopiri Community Centre in the Bia West District of the Western North Region. Family members, traditional leaders, and residents have gathered in large numbers to mourn the deceased and pay their last respects.

Adom News’ Augustine Boah, reporting from the funeral, said one family is burying five relatives among the victims.

The deceased include one male and six females: 64-year-old Isaac Acquah, 70-year-old Akua Bronya, 70-year-old Yaa Ampomah, 64-year-old Dora Asiedu, 62-year-old Ama Yamoawa, 55-year-old Cecilia Samah, and 53-year-old Elizabeth Asiedu.

The fatal accident occurred when a tricycle, locally known as aboboyaa, which was transporting the seven market women, collided head-on with a timber-laden truck traveling in the opposite direction.

Eyewitnesses said the timber truck was speeding, forcing the aboboyaa rider to swerve in an attempt to avoid a collision. Despite the effort, the truck reportedly rammed into the tricycle with full force, killing all seven occupants instantly.
