Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States, Victor Smith, has confirmed the arrest of former Chief Executive Officer of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu, in the United States.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme on Friday, January 16, Ambassador Smith disclosed that Tamakloe-Attionu was arrested on January 6, 2026, and is currently being held at the Nevada Southern Detention Centre.
He explained that the arrest was carried out by the United States Marshals in the Las Vegas, Nevada area.
According to the Ambassador, Tamakloe-Attionu remains in custody as she awaits a court hearing scheduled for January 21, 2026, during which a US court will decide whether to grant Ghana’s extradition request.
Ambassador Smith also dismissed reports circulating in sections of the media suggesting that Tamakloe-Attionu was not in detention, describing such claims as inaccurate.
He further revealed that former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, who was also picked up by US authorities on the same day, remains in detention, with both individuals expected to undergo US judicial processes relating to extradition proceedings.
